A variety of construction projects are under way across the district.

July 27, 2016

  • Olathe West High School ~ Construction continues with the exterior façade installation, interior finishes in the classroom wings, mechanical system installation, electrical rough-in, plumbing rough-in, site grading around the building, track and turf field installation, landscaping, and parking lot installation.
  • Aging Facilities Projects ~ Crews are finishing work at 19 schools this summer with ceiling, lighting and carpet replacement; restroom renovations; exterior door and window replacement. Furniture is being moved back into the classrooms and will be ready for teacher and student arrival.
  • Mission Trial Middle School ~ The existing classroom activity pods were renovated this summer to create much needed classroom space. This project is finishing up this week and will be ready for teacher and student arrival.
  • Mill Creek Center ~ Project design and planning are complete. The district is in the process of obtaining construction bids for the project which will start with interior demolition in September. The project is anticipated to be complete during Winter Break of the 2017-18 school year.
  • Middle School #10 ~ Project design continues and site grading will start in August in anticipation for starting building construction in late fall. Middle School #10 is scheduled to be open for students at the start of the 2018-2019 school year.

Feb. 4, 2016

  • Olathe West High School ~ Construction continues with installation of the exterior and interior walls, electrical, plumbing and heating/ ventilation / air conditioning. Site work continues with landscape plantings.
  • Aging Facilities Projects ~ Planning and receiving of construction bids continues for 2016 projects funded by the 2013 bond. These include ceiling, lighting and floor replacement; restroom renovations; exterior door and window replacement. This year's projects will take place at 19 schools and most of the construction will be completed during the summer. Some work may proceed before and after the school day and on Saturdays beginning in mid-spring.

Nov. 5, 2015

  • Olathe West High School ~ Construction continues with the building structure and exterior wall construction. Site work continues with grading and retaining wall construction around the ball fields. Hedge Lane has been relocated and is open for use. The City of Olathe continues to work on Santa Fe and it is anticipated work will be complete on Santa Fe here in the late fall.
  • Various middle schools ~ Construction has finished with installation of the second gymnasium building addition at selected schools.

Aug. 17, 2015

  • Olathe West High School ~ Site casting and installation of the concrete exterior walls and building structural steel erection will continue through the fall. The City of Olathe is relocating Hedge Lane on the east side of the property.
  • Various middle schools ~ The second gymnasium additions, third music room additions and event entry additions will soon be complete.  
  • Aging Facility Projects ~ Work is finishing up at selected schools with exterior door replacement. All exterior window replacement, interior lighting upgrades, classroom carpet replacement, corridor flooring replacement and ceiling tile replacement was completed prior to school starting.
  • Safe and secure entrances ~ Harmony Early Childhood Center, Heartland Early Childhood Center and Prairie Learning Center will have their new entrances by the end of August. 
  • Auditorium sound and lighting ~ Upgrading and repairing the infrastructure at Olathe East and Olathe North high schools will be complete by the end of August. The project also included adding new sound and lighting components to each auditorium.

June 22, 2015

  • Olathe West High School ~ Construction continues with site casting of the concrete exterior walls and the City of Olathe relocating Hedge Lane. Construction will continue with installation of the building structure here in the summer.
  • Various middle schools ~ Construction continues with installation of the third music room building addition at selected schools, second gymnasium building addition (selected schools), and event entry building addition (selected schools). Interior renovations have started while the students are on summer break. Construction projects at the middle schools are scheduled to be complete by August.
  • Aging Facility Projects ~ Work continues at selected schools with installation of new exterior windows. Work at the 18 schools will consist of exterior door/ window replacement, interior lighting upgrades, classroom carpet replacement, corridor flooring replacement, and ceiling tile replacement and will take place during summer break. All work is scheduled to be complete by August.
  • Safe and secure entrances ~ Projects at Harmony Early Childhood Center, Heartland Early Childhood Center and Prairie Learning Center are scheduled for July. Work will include adding new interior doors and security hardware to create a new secure entry at each facility consistent with all other schools. All work is scheduled to be complete by August.
  • Auditorium sound and lighting ~ Upgrades will take place at Olathe East and Olathe North high schools starting in July and complete by August. Work will consist of repairing and upgrading existing infrastructure and adding new sound and lighting components to each auditorium.
  • Countryside Elementary School ~ New gymnasium flooring is complete.

New carpet tiles have been installed in all classrooms at Clearwater Creek Elementary School. Individual squares of carpet can be replaced when necessary rather than having the expense of replacing flooring in an entire classroom.

 

May 6, 2015

  • Olathe West High School ~ Construction continues with clearing/ grading of the north portion of the site, installation of the lower level building slab, installation of the underground utilities, drilling of concrete foundation piers and the City of Olathe relocating Hedge Lane. Summer construction will include installation of the underground utilities and building structure.
  • Various middle schools ~ Installation of the third music room addition (selected schools), second gymnasium addition (selected schools), and event entry addition (selected schools) are underway. Interior renovations are scheduled for the summer. Construction at the middle schools is scheduled to be complete by August.

March 4, 2015

  • Olathe West High School ~ Construction has started with clearing of the site and temporally relocating Hedge Lane. Construction will continue with installation of the underground utilities and building structure here in the spring.
  • Various middle schools ~ Construction has started for installation of a third music room (at selected schools), a second gymnasium (at selected schools) and interior renovations. Construction at the middle schools is scheduled to be complete by August.
  • Aging Facility Projects ~ Work is scheduled to start during Spring Break and continue into the summer at 18 schools. Work will consist of exterior door/ window replacement, interior lighting upgrades, classroom carpet replacement, corridor flooring replacement and ceiling tile replacement.
  • Secured entrances ~ Design work has started for Harmony Early Childhood Center, Heartland Early Childhood Center and Prairie Learning Center. Construction work at these facilities is scheduled to be completed by August.

June 9, 2014

  • Construction is complete at Millbrooke Elementary School, located near 119th Street and Lone Elm, and on the Technology Support Center, located at 143rd Street and Black Bob Road. Small items, such as landscaping, will be worked on in the coming weeks, with both buildings opening officially later this summer.
  • Work at the district's Food Production Center is expected to be complete by June 15.
  • The construction of new secured front entrances is continuing as planned at 10 elementary schools this summer. The new entrances will be complete by August.
  • Synthetic turf installation has begun at the College Boulevard Activity Center and is expected to begin in the next couple of weeks at Olathe District Activity Center.
  • McCown Gordon Construction has been chosen as the construction manager for High School #5. Site work is expected to begin this fall.

May 2, 2014

  • Millbrooke Elementary School ~ Work is on schedule; with the exception of some paving and landscaping work, the school is finished. Furniture installation will occur in May. There should be no delay to the August 2014 opening of the school.
  • Technology Support Center ~ Construction is complete and furniture has been installed. Work is transitioning to network installation. It is anticipated that staff will move to the new facility sometime in June.
  • Food Production Center ~ Renovation and addition projects have been delayed by the weather but are not impacting operations. These projects are expected to be completed in May.
  • The first six elementary school secured entry renovations have had both their new front office area and secured, "pinch point" entry and old administrative area conversion completed. Mahaffie Elementary School has a kindergarten classroom addition that is still under construction but will be completed by the end of May. Otherwise, all that remains at these projects is furniture installation. Those schools are Bentwood, Briarwood, Green Springs, Mahaffie, Pleasant Ridge and Sunnyside.
  • The next phase of elementary front entry construction began in March and will be completed by fall. Those schools are Arbor Creek, Cedar Creek, Clearwater Creek, Heatherstone, Heritage, Madison Place and Regency Place. All of these projects are in various stages of construction ranging from slabs poured to steel erection completed.
  • The district has awarded a contract for elementary school security features and products including interior and exterior cameras and electronic door releases. Work will begin shortly and will be completed by May 2015.
  • Site work related to synthetic turf installation at the athletic complexes has begun. Football and soccer fields will be done by the start of school with baseball and softball completed sometime in the fall. Construction on the tennis complex is expected to begin late May with a fall completion date.
  • Staff is gearing up for aging facilities work to begin May 24 after students leave for the summer. This work will occur at 27 location and involves 13 categories of work including heating and cooling, window replacement, epoxy flooring and lighting replacement. This work will be completed over the next two to three summers.

  • Millbrooke Elementary School ~ Work is on schedule and substantial completion of the building is expected in late March. Technology is being installed and furniture is out to bid. There should be no delay to the August 2014 opening of the school.
  • Technology Support Center ~ Construction is continuing and expected to be substantially complete by late March, with exterior finishes completed in May. Weather has delayed exterior completion but this delay has no impact on the Technology Division's operations.
  • Food Production Center ~ Renovation and addition projects have also been delayed by the weather but are not impacting operations. These projects are expected to be completed in May.
  • The first six elementary school secured entry renovations will all have their new front office area and secured, pinch point entry completed by Spring Break. The remainder of each project will be completed by the end of April. Those schools are Bentwood, Briarwood, Green Springs, Mahaffie, Pleasant Ridge and Sunnyside.   • The district is currently working with a security consultant on its safety and security projects to determine security features and products including interior and exterior cameras, electronic door releases, strategic exterior lighting and more. Bid packages for these items will begin hitting the street in late spring.
