May 2014 Recognitions by the Board of Education

Brogden Auto Plaza honor Robert and Kathy Brogden, of Brogden Auto Plaza, were recognized for their company's annual support of the Wimmer Care Fund, Olathe Public Schools Foundation breakfast, and the Martin Luther King Jr. diversity contest. Superintendent Marlin Berry, Board of Education Vice President LeEtta Felter, and Community Liaison Heather Schoonover (right) participated in the recognition.
Kathleen Wilhite honor Kathleen Wilhite, a retired teacher from Olathe South High School, was recognized as a Kansas Master Teacher, an award given by Emporia State University. She was joined by the superintendent, a board member, and her former principal, Phil Clark.
Various counseling awards Numerous counseling awards were recognized during the meeting. Laurinda Culpepper from Walnut Grove Elementary and Tammie Milke from Olathe North High School were finalists for Kansas School Counselor of the Year. Sunnyside Elementary School was recognized with the Kansas State Department of Education’s Standard of Excellence for school counseling award. David Kearney of Sunnyside received a Principal Advocate Award from the Kansas School Counselor Association.
Jane Jones honor Jane Jones of Pioneer Trail Middle School was named Executive Assistant of the Year by the Kansas Association of Middle School Administrators. She was joined at the board meeting by Pioneer Trail Assistant Principal Elaine Carpenter (right), Superintendent Marlin Berry and Board of Education Vice President LeEtta Felter.
Olathe East Talons dance team

The Olathe East High School Talons varsity and junior varsity dance teams won a total of 18 national champion titles at the National/International Dance Competition. They also won the Gussie Nell Davis Sweepstakes Award. They were joined by head coach Cathy Alcorn, assistant coaches Lexi Glover, Darcy Hiebsch and Brian Penny, and Olathe East Principal Bill Weber.
