October 2015 Recognitions by the Board of Education

YMCA business partner Representatives from the YMCA of Greater Kansas City (holding framed certificates) were thanked for the $41,000 grant for summer learning loss prevention they awarded to Ridgeview Elementary School. Thirty-two students from first or second grade received summer learning experiences during June and July thanks to the grant. Ridgeview Elementary Principal Kim Thorup and Community Liaison Heather Schoonover (right) attended the recognition.
national honor choir and orchestra Three high school students were selected for the National Association of Music Education 2015 honor ensembles. The honored students are (from left) Alexander Jackson of Olathe North High School, All National Honor Orchestra; Jenna Lillian of Olathe East High School, All National Honor Choir; and Cole Bellamy of Olathe North, All National Honor Choir. The students were accompanied by their teachers or principal as well as Fine Arts Coordinator Martha Gabel.
John Ernst honor

Rolling Ridge Elementary Principal John Ernst was recognized as the District 1 National Distinguished Principal for 2015-16 by the Kansas Association of Elementary School Principals. Assisting at the presentation was Executive Director of General Administration / Elementary Programs Brent Yeager (right).
