October 2016 Recognitions by the Board of Education

Wall of Honor recipients Interim Superintendent Patricia All and board member Amy Martin recognized the 2016 inductees into the Olathe Public Schools Alumni Association Wall of Honor. The honorees included Ed Speer (accepting on behalf of his late uncle Hugh Speer), James Kean, Mike Knop, Texanna Ollenberger, Sam Crawford (accepting on behalf of his late sister Margaret "Peggy" Barron). Assisting with the presentation were alumni association President Carol Wheeler and Community Liaison Heather Schoonover.
Whelan Leadership Award recipients The Special Services Department received the 2016 Whelan Kansas Leadership for Learning Award. This recognition notes Director of Special Services Lanie Fasulo and the Special Services team created and inspired an instructional leadership group that supports meaningful and positive learning outcomes for all learners, particularly those with disabilities as well as supporting and developing staff, communication, and training that enhances learning opportunities. John Hutchison receives award

John Hutchison, CPA, SFO, chief financial and operations officer for the Olathe Public Schools, was honored by the Association of School Business Officials International with its 2016 Pinnacle of Excellence Award for an innovative capital improvement planning process that clarifies budget planning for stakeholders and engages them in the process. Four years ago, Hutchison began developing a capital improvement planning process that gathered data related to the capital needs of the district and presented it in a simple format that was easily understandable by the stakeholders.
