November 2016 Recognitions by the Board of Education

TVH partnership is recognized Interim Superintendent Patricia All and board member Brent McCune (center) thanked representatives from TVH, a global leader for material handling parts, for its support in the youth mentoring program and as a member of the district's 21st Century Academy Advisory Board. Stephanie Conklin is honored Brougham Elementary School Principal Stephanie Conklin received a $25,000 Milken Educator Award from the Milken Family Foundation. The award is given to educators in early- and mid-career to recognize what they have achieved and the promise of what they will accomplish. Conklin was joined at the recognition by Executive Director of General Administration/Elementary Programs Brent Yeager (right).
Dee Bell is recognized

Olathe Northwest High School's Dee Bell was named the 2016 Kansas State High School Athletic Association's 6A Track and Field Coach of the Year. He is beginning his fourth year as head track coach at Northwest. Assisting with the presentation were Principal Chris Zuck, Athletic Director Joe Gunderson and District Athletic and Activities Director Tim Brady (right).

Ben Heueisen is recognized

Olathe North High School senior Ben Heueisen is among 125 high school senior marching band members from across the nation to be selected for the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band. The group will perform at halftime of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl game on Jan. 7. Heueisen was accompanied by band director Justin Love, Fine Arts Coordinator Martha Gabel, and Principal Jason Herman (right).

Bob Davis is recognized

Bob Davis, band director at Olathe Northwest High School, was recognized for two honors. He was recently named the Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) Outstanding Young Band Educator of the Year award for the Northeast District. He was also named one of 50 Directors Who Make a Difference by School Band and Orchestra magazine. Davis was accompanied at the recognition by Fine Arts Coordinator Martha Gabel and Principal Chris Zuck.

Olathe East gymnastics team

The Olathe East High School gymnastics team won the recent 6A state championships, their seventh in the past 17 years. Samantha Bond took first place in three events: All Around, Floor Exercise, and Vault. The team was joined by Principal Kerry Lane, Coach Mallory West, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Amanda Faunce, and District Athletic and Activities Director Tim Brady.
