summer externship participants

Superintendent John Allison and board member Shannon Wickliffe recognized six district teachers and the businesses where they participated in summer externships. Stephanie Dupree, Family and Consumer Science teacher from Olathe South High School, was mentored by Dan Janssen from The Rub and Jeanne MacKay from The Tasteful Olive. Robyn Eick, Family and Consumer Science teacher from Olathe North High School, was mentored by Mary Riffle from Hy-Vee Olathe. Brandon Hernandez, math teacher from Olathe Northwest High School, was mentored by Emily Rhoden from Burns & McDonnell. Jordan Landis, Family and Consumer Science teacher from Olathe Northwest, was mentored Brenda Groover from Groover Interior Design and Jenny Hutinger from Finkle and Williams Architecture. Amy Nail, Family and Consumer Science teacher from Olathe North, was mentored by Cris Loomis from the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment. Jessica Collins, business teacher from Olathe Northwest, was mentored by Harleigh Elsworth from Kansas Coffee Café.

state speech champions

Students from the Olathe North and Northwest debate and forensics teams excelled in state and national events. Amy Kaba of Olathe North was the state speech champion in Poetry Interpretation. Zach Wallentine of Olathe North was state runner-up in Impromptu Speech and finished in the top 10 in Congressional Debate at nationals. Although not able to attend the board recognition, Austin Shively of Olathe Northwest was state champion in Dramatic Interpretation, and Reem Atallah of Olathe North was state runner-up in Informative Speech.

Northwest softball champs

The Olathe Northwest Ravens softball team won the state championship for the third time in school history. In addition, six players were named to the Kansas Coaches Association All-State team, more than from any other team in Kansas.

track and field champions

Several Olathe athletes won team or individual honors at the Kansas 6A State Track and Field Championships. From Olathe East: Bailey Turner, long jump. From Olathe North: Dana Baker, javelin, and Brandon Clark, 800m event. From Olathe Northwest: Julian Lacey, 400m event; Rachael Mayberry, pole vault; and Maddie Righter, high jump. From Olathe South: Robert Adger III, Nolan McKay, Emmanuel Okwuone, Cameron Waldo and alternate Jamison Phelps, 4x400 relay.
