Presidential Service Award recipients

Nearly 70 participants in the Volunteers Serving Schools program earned Presidential Service Awards this year: 50 bronze awards for 100-249 hours of service in 2016-17, 16 silver awards for 250-499 hours of service, and two gold awards for more than 500 hours of service. In the 2016-2017 school year, 628 volunteers provided 27,657 service hours throughout our district.

Anika Lam

Superintendent John Allison and board member Mike Poland recognized Anika Lam of Olathe North High School as the the girls 6A state champion in 200-yard individual medley swimming. Assisting at the board recognition were Coach Amanda Haigh (left) and Director of Athletics, Activities and Student Transportation Tim Brady (right).

David Lye

David Lye won the district spelling bee last spring as a fifth-grader at Sunnyside Elementary School. In late May, he represented the district at the National Scripps Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. He was accompanied at the board meeting by his former principal, David Kearney, of Sunnyside.
