Legislative Update for March 7, 2017

On March 2, the Kansas Supreme Court ruled that the two-year block grant funding plan for public schools did not meet the state constitution’s definition of “adequacy” of funding and asked the state Legislature to address this by June 30, 2017. More details about how this will be handled will be forthcoming in the coming weeks and months.

After a brief break, the state Legislature is back in session as of March 6. Big agenda items for the second half of the session include taxes, budgets and a new school finance formula.
