Stacy Shipley has been named the principal at Woodland Elementary School, which will open in August.

Principal Stacy Shipley and her familyShipley has been in the Olathe School District for 11 years and has been principal of Countryside Elementary for the past eight years. Before Countryside, Shipley was an administrative intern and instructional resource teacher. Prior to that, she was a first- and second-grade teacher in the district.

"I am excited about the challenge of opening a new school, but can't imagine leaving the students and families of Countryside," Shipley said. "I am extremely proud of the Countryside community. Through the years, we — parents, teachers and students — have worked together to create an incredible learning experience for each child who has walked through our doors. Academic excellence has been our number one priority, and I hope to create the same type of community at Woodland Elementary School."

Shipley holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Emporia State University. She is the recipient of the Emporia State University's Outstanding Most Recent Graduate in 2004 and is the district's nominee for the National Change Award this year. Shipley's husband, Rob, is a counselor at Clearwater Creek Elementary School. They have two children, Bennett, a second-grader at Arbor Creek Elementary School, and Maris, 3.

Woodland, the district's 33rd elementary school, is located at 11601 S. Woodland Road.
