Olathe Public Schools PowerUp Middle School iPad Initiative
Beginning in the 2015-16 school year, middle school students in the district will be assigned an iPad, as part of the district's 1-to-1 middle school iPad PowerUP initiative. Middle school classrooms across the district will have these devices to enrich learning. This technology tool will enhance current teaching practices, and will provide students with opportunities to use technology even more as they learn, gather and analyze information and produce high quality work. The middle school iPad project is funded through the 2013 Bond, approved by voters in June 2013.
The PowerUp initiative's primary goal is to improve student learning and better prepare our students to be dynamic leaders in the 21st Century. Educational research indicates effective integration of digital technology with students and teachers positively impacts student engagement, collaboration, and mastery of learning concepts.
Several Olathe businesses have indicated they provide free Wi-Fi. For families with no wireless access at home, the list can be used to locate a nearby business for students to access Wi-Fi to download an assignment or view a video in order to complete assignments in the evening or on weekends, if absolutely necessary.
