Board Receives Preliminary Design Ideas for High School 5

March 7, 2014 ~ More than three years before High School 5 will open at Hedge Lane and Santa Fe, members of the Olathe Board of Education got their first look at preliminary designs for the building. The presentation by Superintendent Marlin Berry, Chief Financial and Operations Officer John Hutchison, Christian Owens of SHW Group and John Southard of Hollis + Miller was made during the board's March 6 meeting.

District staff has worked with Hollis + Miller and SHW Group since last fall on the conceptual design. During this process, staff and designers talked about what types of learning will occur in the school, how different spaces need to relate to each other, what efficiencies can be realized by properly orienting space, and using areas for multiple functions.

The preliminary sketch presented by Berry and Hutchison will continue to be studied and refined during the next part of the design process.
