Olathe Northwest Senior Named U.S. Presidential Scholar

Bessie BaumanMay 10, 2017 ~ Bessie Bauman has been named a U.S. Presidential Scholar. Bauman is an Olathe Northwest High School senior where she serves as Student Council president and volunteers with Olathe Youth Court and the Kansas School for the Deaf. U.S. Presidential Scholars are comprised of one man and woman from each state based on academic success, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership, and demonstrated commitment to high ideals. As a U.S. Presidential Scholar, Bauman will travel to Washington, D.C. in June to receive her honor.

The prestigious U.S. Presidential Scholar recognition is one of the highest achievements for a graduating senior.

"We are incredibly proud of Bessie earning this accomplishment," Principal Chris Zuck said. "It's an incredible honor that completely fits Bessie and her experiences and attributes. Olathe Northwest is very excited to celebrate one of its very talented students."

Bauman will continue her education at Yale University in the fall. She is the daughter of Ivelis Bauman and the late Norman Bauman.
