May 12, 2017 ~ Ravenwood Elementary was recently honored by the Kansas Schools of Character and Character.org with two Promising Practices Awards. These awards are given to schools for implementing unique and specific strategies in character education.

Ravenwood Tiger Service Club"At Ravenwood, we are working diligently on teaching social and emotional life skills through the implementation of intentional social skills lessons and sharing and modeling kindness around the school and community," Principal Christi Gottschalk said. "Ravenwood students learn these skills not only in their own classrooms but throughout the school in all specials and support classes."

The school was recognized for efforts during the month of December 2016, when it completed "Operation Kindness Tiger" to share "Tiger Love" at Ravenwood and in the school community.

The school was also recognized for its Tiger Service Club, a fifth-grade leadership group that completes philanthropy projects. The club's mission is to do kind things for the school, Olathe, and Johnson County community. Tiger Service Club students pledge to be role models around school and help to promote kindness around Ravenwood.

"Tiger Service Club students are looked up to as role models in our school by students, staff, and parents," Gottschalk said. "These students are volunteering their time to promote activities in our school that will build positive character traits within themselves, other students, and in school community."
