Board Wraps up 2016-17 Fiscal Year with Meeting

June 29, 2017 ~ In their final meeting of the 2016-17 fiscal year on June 28, Olathe Board of Education members handled several action items.

The board:

  • Approved a consent agenda of routine items including meeting minutes, accounts payable, human resources report, international language labs for the high schools, textbooks for the Future Educators Academy, elementary science textbooks, and a 1 percent cost of living adjustment for Head Start staff (provided by a federal grant).
  • Approved entering into an agreement with the City of Olathe for a fire resource coordinator for the 21st Century Public Safety Academy. (funding for the district's 25 percent commitment will come from Human Resources budget)
  • Accepted the low bid for interior building graphics for Olathe West High School. (2013 bond funds)
  • Approved a contract for web development and management services. (2016 bond funds)
  • Approved the low bid for graphing calculators to be used at Olathe West. (2016 bond funds)
  • Approved the purchase of dance uniforms and apparel for Olathe West. (2016 bond funds)
  • Approved a bid for food service equipment to replace aging equipment in 29 elementary schools. (capital outlay funds)
  • Approved the sale of about two acres of land near 129th Street and Black Bob Road which had been used as an access road during 127th Street improvements.
  • Approved change orders in excess of $20,000 for the Millcreek Campus project. (2016 bond funds)
  • Approved change orders in excess of $20,000 for track repairs at Chisholm Trail Middle School. (2016 bond funds)
  • Approved end-of-year transactions.
  • Received information about future action items regarding social emotional learning curriculum and assessment resources, and deeding 38.5 feet of land at Olathe Northwest High School to an adjacent property owner.
  • Held an executive session to discuss personnel matters and employer-employee negotiations.
