Olathe Public Schools Plans for Eclipse

solar eclipse posterJuly 26, 2017 ~ In anticipation of the Aug. 21 total solar eclipse, Olathe Public Schools has planned districtwide educational initiatives revolving around the once-in-a-lifetime event.

Engaging all to witness the solar eclipse, Olathe Public Schools will provide each student and staff member special viewing glasses to commemorate the event. These glasses will protect staff and student eyes from solar radiation and allow a front-row seat to history.

For the Olathe area, the eclipse will begin around 11:40 a.m., with close to totality around 1:08 p.m., ending at 2:35 p.m. This is the first time since 1918 a solar eclipse will be visible on a path across the entire continental United States.

Following the outdoor activities, classroom lessons will further explain the cause and subsequent rarity of the total solar eclipse. A public webpage of online resources is also available for families: https://teachers.olatheschools.com/eclipse/.
