Olathe Teacher Named Finalist for Teacher of the Year

Sept. 11, 2017 ~ Angie Powers, English teacher at Olathe Northwest High School, was named the secondary Region 3 finalist for the 2018 Kansas Teacher of the Year award. This award recognizes teaching achievement and excellence in the elementary and secondary classrooms across Kansas.

As a finalist for the Kansas Teacher of the Year award, Powers received a $2,000 cash award from Security Benefit, the corporate partner for the Kansas Teacher of the Year Program. The Kansas Teacher of the Year award will be named during a ceremony in Wichita, Kansas, Nov. 18.

"We are so proud of Angie's accomplishment and feel she is so deserving of this accolade," Olathe Northwest Principal Chris Zuck said. "Ms. Powers epitomizes what educators should strive to be. She is a student advocate, effective, innovative, involved and connected. In addition, Ms. Powers is an established and powerful leader in her department and our building as a whole."
